Where to Retire – Senior Citizen Retirement Planning

Where to retire is something that senior citizens often wonder when it comes time to stop working, and sit back and relax. It’s something to carefully consider – just where is the best place to retire? This is a question that doesn’t have just one “best” answer. However, here are a few suggestions and guidelines.

Senior citizen retirement often has the stigma of being centered in Florida – even though this has been changing over the years. So maybe you don’t want to consider Florida as one of your options. Instead, consider moving to a different place. You can still find places in similar climates like Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and event he Gulf Coast of Texas.

  • Consider living near family. It can be inconvenient to visit if you live too far away – not to mention lonely! Living within a reasonable driving distance from your loved ones can make all the difference when holidays come around. You might decide where to retire based on distance from family for this reason.
  • Live in a climate you can enjoy. Minnesota winters can be hard, but so can New Orleans summers – so where to retire should probably be somewhere a little less extreme if you live in a place like this. Consider moving to a place that’s somewhere “in-between” if you can do extended seasonal travel.
  • Economy might be a factor in where to retire if you have limited retirement resources. The cost of living seems to always be on the rise, and if you’ve left the workforce (or if you just want to live more cheaply!) you might consider moving to a less-expensive area. Sometimes, this might mean just moving 20 miles from a major city.
